Born in Osaka in 1940, Uke Kensaku graduated in painting from the Tama Art University in 1964. Between 1965 and 1967, he achieved is training in ceramic and will keep on exploring both techniques during his career. He is particularly well known for his beautiful series of erotic prints and his fine ceramics bearing iridescent abstract design realized with metallic glazes If he apparently never took part in any of the main national craft exhibitions, he held a large number of solo shows in Nagoya and Tokyo. He was also often invited to exhibit in Europe, for instance in Austria during the International Ceramic Symposium (1978) or in Faeza, Italy, between 1980 and 1987 for the International Competition of Artistic Ceramics.
