Born in Kyoto, Ito Suiko studied pottery at the Kyoto Ceramics Research Institute and became a student of the Imperial Household Artist Ito Tozan I (1846-1920) and Ito Tozan II (1871-1937). After his first show at the Teiten exhibition, he established his own kiln in Kyoto in 1931. In 1937 he participated in the founding of the Kyoto Crafts Institute and became its director. In 1958, he took part in the Nitten exhibition before becoming one of the Nitten’s councillors in 1964. In 1963, he joined the association of Contemporary craft artists.

He received the Kyoto Prefecture Arts and Crafts Distinguished Service Award in 1975 and was designated 4 years later Artist of Cultural Merit by the city of Kyoto.
