Maeda Taishō was born in Arita, Saga Prefecture, where he opened his kiln. Mastering the coloured glazes, his works are an expression of space, beauty and exquisite craftsmanship, and often refers to natural motifs as mountain and sea.

He was exhibited multiples times in Japan and abroad, as in 2000 at the British Museum during the Saga prefecture ceramic exhibition. He has been a member of the Nitten association for decades, held the position of Director of the Saga Prefecture Art Association and Saga Prefecture Ceramic Association, and received amongst many prizes the Regional Cultural Merit award from the Minister of Education and Culture.
