Koji Arata, born in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, open is kiln in 1968 in the city of Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture. Since the late 1970s, he has been presenting his works at the Japan Kogei Exhibition and he is now chairman of the Ibaraki Kogei Association. In 1981 he won the Minister of Education award at the 6th Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and his creations were part of the exhibition “Discovery of Japanese Art’’ held in London.

Koji Arata’s pieces are made from the local clay of Kasama, rich in iron, and particularly appreciated for their fine geometric, complex carved design. The beautiful texture is surface of this fine example in green algae colour is achieved by spraying nickel oxide glaze before the firing.
